BRUCE HAINES
Curator
Since 1996, Bruce Haines has worked as an exhibition curator at four of the UK’s major public art institutions. For the last four years he has organised exhibitions at Camden Arts Centre, London and between 2000 and 2004 he was Projects Curator at the Institute of International Visual Arts (inIVA), London. He previously worked at Oriel Mostyn, Llandudno, North Wales and the former Centre for Visual Arts, Cardiff, where, among other shows, he curated ‘Wood Quarry’ by David Nash, ‘Superstructure 9 from Wales’ and ‘Unconvention’ by Jeremy Deller.  As an independent Haines curated the touring exhibition ‘Folk Archive: contemporary popular art from the UK’ by Jeremy Deller and Alan Kane, which travelled to Aberystwyth Arts Centre in 2006. Other independently curated shows include ‘Daisychain’ at MOT Gallery, London and ‘Friedrich’ at Doggerfisher, Edinburgh. He has contributed to art magazines Frieze, Art Monthly and Untitled, and has written catalogue texts for exhibitions including ‘Over and Over, Again and Again’ featuring seven Welsh artists at Contemporary Arts Centre, Vilnius, Lithuania (2005) and ‘Remains of Innocence’, Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff (2004). In 2006 he co-founded Ancient & Modern, a commercial gallery in London, representing a small number of contemporary artists as well as showing the work of other historically interesting figures. He is a trustee of the LYC Foundation.
MARI BEYNON OWEN

Mari Beynon Owen has extensive experience in the media having worked at S4C ; BBC Network Television; she was Sgrîn Cymru’s first chief executive and producer/director of  the Welsh International Film Festival.  For ten years she has worked as an independent consultant specialising in creative sector management, working with national institutions, companies and individual artists on policy, strategic business and management skills, development and identification of business and marketing opportunities. 

ROB LOWE
Project Manager
Rob trained as an artist at Lancaster University and UCE, Birmingham before completing an MA in Museum Studies at Leicester. He spent three years at Crescent Arts in Scarborough as exhibitions officer and running artist in residence projects. For the last five years he has been working in Wales, including positions as exhibitions officer at Oriel Davies, visual arts assistant at Chapter and project manager for Safle. During the last year he has worked as an independent guest curator, developing shows for g39, Cardiff and Eigse Carlow Arts Festival, Carlow, Ireland. He also continues to exhibit his own drawings.
WALES AT VENICE COMMITTEE 2009
Wales at Venice Committee 2009

The Advisory Committee, which oversees the work of the Venice Executive on behalf of ACW will be chaired by ACW Council Member Norah Campbell. Originally from the Isle of Mull in Scotland, Norah Campbell brings with her a wealth of experience as the former Head of International Arts at British Council Scotland, (a partnership with the Scottish Arts Council), where she was on the steering committee for Scotland in Venice in 2005, and 2007 when she was on the curatorial advisory team.  She now lives in Anglesey and works as a freelance arts consultant. 

New Committee appointments are Christopher Coppock, Director, Ffotogallery Cardiff; Maggie Maxwell, Equalities and Diversity Officer, UWIC, Cardiff and Benjamin Ward, Director, Brunswick Arts, London.  They join current members Anthony Shapland, artist, founder and Director of g39, Contemporary Temporary Artspace, Cardiff, Cath Sherrell, Education Officer at Aberystwyth Arts Centre and Emrys Williams, artist and lecturer at Coleg Menai, Bangor.
